Responds To Lack of Land and Rising Demand for Land

There are various solutions for a country to solve these problems.
The followings are how most country responded to these problems.

1)Increase the price of land.

Land price change over time and place. They are govern by these simple laws. Firstly,is supply and demand, the higher price of land is usually due to decrease of supply or increase in demand. Usually, the closer the land is to urban areas, the higher the price.

Secondly, the price mechanism also controls the allocation of land uses. The price guide changes depending in the value and the types of product or service that are given. Thirdly, there is the opportunity cost that decide the cost in terms of the next best alternative. It retain open spaces in urban area for commercial purposes such as hotels and bank while the open spaces in rural area are retain for industries.

Although rising the price of the land is an effective way to allocate the scarce land in competitive situation, this will leave more people homeless as they could not afford the rising in price of land.

2)Land Clearance.

Large areas are cleared by commercial logging companies. The forest provides timber that can be make into various products such as papers and furniture for sale. The land is than used for agricultural purposes or even for human to develop on. However, to bear in mind by burning down the trees, it will effect the environment as the carbon dioxide emits by the flame plays a huge role in global warming. Additionally, the habitat of the animals are destroyed. This will lead to extinction of the animals.

3)Land Reclamation.

Empoldering- in countries which their land is below sea level, dykes are built so that the waterlogged land can be drained to form polder to increase the land for agriculture.

Draining Swamps- Dykes are built along the coast to keep the sea water out of the former swaps. fresh water is brought into the former swap and the excess water is drained by a drainage system.

This method could lead to extiction of the animals that lives in the swap. Secondly, there would be more floods are there are no plant to weaken the waves.

4)Maximising land use
Urban Land Use- High density building are build so to maximise the amount people living in an area. Many buildings can be build in an area together forming a mixed land.

Agriculture Land Use-
-Terracing, farmers step cuts into hillside, making flat land to increase the area of arable lands
-soil less farming, farmers uses hydroponic farms as it does not require large area of land to make large products.

Compare Singapore With other Countries

Singapore is a small island, thus land is a scarce resource. However, thanks to the wise Singapore government, they use the land wisely by maxising land use, for example is Compass point in sengkang. The building consist of a mall on ground level with a condominium on top of the mall. Additionally, the basement of the mall is a MRT station.

Secondly, Singapore also uses the method of land reclamation. One good example is Changi airport. It is built on a reclaimed land along the coast. The reclamation took 2 years from 1976-1978. The second causeway link between Malaysia and Singapore by Tuas was also reclaimed along the coast.

However, Singapore so not practise deforestation for land as the are no forest in Singapore besides those which are conserved. However, countries like Indonesia practises these types of ways to increase the land supply. Due to the numerous amount of area filled with trees, it is affordable for Indonesia but not country like Singapore.
